Celebrity news: Osbournes owe IRS $1.7 million in unpaid taxes
Uncle Sam now has his eye on heavy-metal rock legend Ozzy Osbourne along with his wife and manager, Sharon.
And he isn’t interested in the music or the reality TV shows.
Not even close.
Several reports indicate that the celebrity couple owes the IRS more than $1.7 million in unpaid taxes.
In fact, the big bad Tax Man placed a lien on their Los Angeles, Calif., home. It will be released once they pay back the $718,948 from 2008 and $1.024 million from 2009.
Over the weekend, Sharon told her followers on Twitter:
“You can’t rely on anyone but yourself. But you have to be on top of your own business affairs. My fault … lesson learned.”
This isn’t the first time the Osbourne’s have gone off the rails. The State of California filed a lien last month on their daughter Kelly Osbourne, who apparently owes $34,000.
Crazy, but that’s how it goes.
Wyclef Jean has Debts to Settle Before Candidacy
The future candidate for the presidency of Haiti may have to settle a debt before he takes on the media storm. According to The Smoking Gun, Wyclef owes more than 2.1 million dollars to the IRS. The musician’s tax trouble comes from his 1040 returns that weren’t paid in 2006, 2007, and 2008.
The liens were filed in Bergen County, NJ at the County Clerks office. Wyclef bought a home there in Saddle River for almost 2 million back in 1998. The first lien filed against the Wyclef was back in 2007 for over $790, 000.
While the very ambitious hip-hop star prepares for his announcement for candidacy, he would surely seem to settle his debt Uncle Sam.
Dane Cook takes on California for 500k Mistake
The State of California might be trying to make money off of Dane Cook. The superstar comedian is claiming to be a victim of a mistake made by the Tax Board of California.
The state has issued a tax lien against Dane for $515,430.43 for unpaid taxes in 2005, 2006, and 2007. That is a lot of money for the comedian who has made a well-known name for himself with his career.
Dane Cook told TMZ that the State of California is “in the process of removing this mistaken lien from their records.”
Nic Cage is Back
Nicolas Cage apparently owed the IRS more money then expected. Cage had a federal tax lien issued against him for $6.7 million in unpaid taxes for 2008. This is on top of the other 6 million he owed already for four other years in the past.
According to TMZ, Nicolas Cages total in unpaid taxes is over 13.3 million buckaroos. If you remember at all, Cage had a falling out with his former business manager, Sam Levin. The two are currently in a legal battle as to way Nic fell financially.
Nicolas Cage told TMZ, “I am under new business management and am happy to say that I am current for 2009. All taxes will be paid including any to be determined state taxes.” We gotta say, Cage has some serious money to be able to bounce back the way he has.
Sinbad is bad at filing taxes
Legendary comedian and actor, Sinbad, has been “bad” at filing his taxes. He reportedly owes $8 million in unpaid taxes to the IRS. Sinbad (real name is David Adkins), did not pay taxes from 1998 to 2006 on returns that he filed.
Since he owes so much money, the U.S. Attorney General’s Office in LA wants to foreclose on his Cali home to help pay off those liens. A suit was filed against home on December 10th. This isn’t the first time we have heard this news from the comedian. He has apparently been fighting this for years. In 2003 and in 2005, Sinbad tried to attempt a compromise with the IRS but was rejected both times. Money is tight now and the Fed wants him to cough it up.
This is no joke for the comedian.
